5 Mark Kette

In the winter of 1945, my mother and I left their Silesian homeland. Her father
gave her a bag filled with silver five-mark pieces to take with her on her journey
into the unknown and hoped they would help her.
Our refugee train was diverted to Austria in Bavaria and we
ended up in a refugee camp there. When I got head lice, my
Mother, that she could no longer stay there. By paying with the
Silver coins we got accommodation with a farmer outside the
camp, which allowed a piece of personal freedom to be bought, and the
is worth a lot!
As a souvenir, my mother gave me the last remaining silver
I made a necklace out of a five-mark piece, which I still own today.
