In the fall of 2015, I met two Syrian refugees. Although I had already been involved in many refugee aid projects before then, personal contact was something different at the time. Initially, it was just about helping them on their journey here in Germany, but it quickly developed into a friendship and a familial bond. We're still good friends today. However, things are different today, as we had a lot of chores to do at the beginning, and now we can easily and carefree take care of the "normal" everyday things. Where about three years ago, for example, administrative tasks were a priority and took up most of our time, today it's the everyday, pleasant things like going out to eat together, going to the movies, and simply enjoying life. Inspired by the boys, I launched a charity cookbook at the end of 2015, which was published by the Hamburg publisher "Kiezküche." This book was released in the summer of 2016 and has generated a great deal of donations for refugee aid. The cookbook "Kiezküche // Refugees Welcome" has become a symbol for me that you can achieve anything if you just want to. And you can do it together.
