Reminder: Here, in this city, last summer – a "masterclass" of a different kind. A young woman, a trained singer and vocal teacher, whom I know from the internet, is giving a workshop called a "masterclass." Unlike conventional masterclasses for musicians, however, this one is open to amateurs of varying levels of ability. It turns out that this openness bears fruit. Almost everyone listens to the others as they receive their vocal training input in front of the masterclass "audience"! Everyone has brought a song to practice. At the end of the week, despite the coronavirus pandemic, there will be a small performance for a limited audience.
The result: A "magical" atmosphere emerged, thanks to precisely this infectious, encouraging, and respectful openness of all participants. Self-realization through a concern for the joy of others, not just one's own success—an audible, courageous radiance.
