The most important invisible infrastructure

Die wichtigste unsichtbare Infrastruktur

A city’s most important infrastructure is invisible

When we talk about a city's infrastructure, we think of roads, pipes, and power grids. The hard, visible structure that keeps everything running. But a city is more than that. It also has a social infrastructure: libraries, parks, public squares. Places where community develops.

In his book "Palaces for the People," sociologist Eric Klinenberg calls these places the foundation for a functioning society. But these spaces alone aren't enough. They only unfold their true power through us. And in a time when we spend more and more time in front of screens, this invisible, human connection is in danger of deteriorating.

The most sustainable urban development invests not just in concrete, but in encounters. What if each of us could become an active node in this social network? With a tool that helps us breathe life into existing infrastructure.

Become a social infrastructure yourself

At the Museum of Values, we believe that every individual can increase the social warmth in their own community. We developed the Action Cards for this purpose. They are a playful way to consciously perceive and actively shape the community infrastructure that surrounds you.

A game for a vibrant city:

  • Activate places: Transform an anonymous park bench or street corner into a place of potential encounters.
  • Promotes interaction: The 35 impulses invite you to interact with your environment and the people in it in a playful way.
  • Strengthens the common good: By filling your environment with positive interactions, you directly contribute to the quality of life in your city.

The art of embodying change

Transforming spaces and systems through human interaction is an art. Our partners at The Art of Embodying Change GmbH are experts in facilitating such transformative processes and empowering people to become their own designers.
