Grandparents give their grandchildren things. When I visit Grandma and Grandpa, I never go home empty-handed. They like to give me
To give the feeling that I am taking something with me. Stories from the past, knowledge
about life, a tenner - or a jar of jam. Grandpa is a gardener. When we walk through the garden, we talk about his
Plants. He tells me about their uses and their effects. He is proud
on the diversity of life and the knowledge that he has gained over the last 80 years
Grandma loves to give new value to objects. She
buys old furniture at flea markets, gets things from neighbors and
Joys. She then sits at the piece of furniture all day and gives
It gives it new life. She stains, grinds and treats the structure of the
wood and she loves to pass on this knowledge. The two
take something from their garden and make something new out of it. On the
Pumpkins grow in compost, along with raspberries and currants.
We recently harvested rhubarb. When I leave, Grandma gives me a jar
Jam with me. And one more for my mother. That is her expression of
Appreciation and respect. I have respect for the techniques and
Values of this older generation. And I hope that we learn enough from them
and their knowledge is not lost. I have respect for a
Generation that worked with their hands and their heads. I have
Respect for the fact that we do not sufficiently question progress and our
Generation does not know what to do with this heritage. I would like to
