My favorite coffee shop: closed. My favorite coffee companions: at home. The sky: blue. The Tempelhofer Feld park: just a 5-minute walk away. My social commitment: #socialdistancing and #stayhome.
I really enjoy being alone and know how to keep myself busy, but not seeing my loved ones is really bothering me. Social distancing is very difficult for someone like me who enjoys being around people, but I'm sticking to it because I know how important it is. I started working from home very early, as early as the beginning of March, and after almost three weeks, you start to get creative when you don't just want to talk on the phone or FaceTime. My sleep rhythm has completely reversed itself: tired early, awake early.
Very unusual for me, but in this case, it was a lifesaver. Waking up at unusually "off" hours, early in the morning at 6:40 a.m., just before the bright sun appears, dressing warmly, and standing in your apartment full of anticipation because you know you're about to see a friend: so wonderful! It's less about social distancing and more about physical distancing, even if that means our dates now become sunrise walks in the fields so as not to endanger others during prime time.
Now, it's no secret among my friends that I love coffee, especially since they gave me the most amazing birthday present imaginable in February of this year: a Eureka coffee grinder. A missing gem in my coffee-making arsenal.
Well, I've often found myself standing in my kitchen at around 6:50 a.m., lovingly preparing two cups of coffee to take to our morning walks in the fields. The first rays of sunshine and the delicious coffee were and are always our companions.
There are good days when we unite our shared creativity and embark on new projects, and there are bad days when we anxiously await the future. Everything is permitted before we return to our home offices when it gets busier out there, so as not to pose an unnecessary danger to others.
The most important thing is that no matter what's happening around us, whether it affects the whole world or each individual, we are there for each other. Even without hugs and at a distance of 2 meters.
