One evening, I mentioned that I'd like to get my nose pierced. First of all, I'll be 20 this year, so I'm old enough to make decisions about my body. My parents wanted to know why; they are completely against piercings and tattoos. I replied: "For me, because I want them and I need them." Not in the medical sense, but for myself. My parents didn't understand that, and to this day. They said, "With my political leanings, I shouldn't do something like that." What does that have to do with it? Just because I'm a feminist and for justice. I want it! And if I want to "do" that to my body, then that's my decision! They threatened me jokingly. It wasn't a serious threat, just that they said they wouldn't cook vegan meals for me anymore, and that I'd be disinherited, blah blah blah... But even the smallest joke always has some truth to it. The discussion went on for much longer, but I don't have that much time today. My plan for the future is to get my nose pierced as soon as I move out.
