My name is Emily Haacke . I am a primary school teacher and currently teach a first grade class with children from very different cultural and social backgrounds. In this role, I encounter my own prejudices every day, but I also realize where my values and boundaries lie.

Openness is a value that guides me in life.

It's important to me to approach other people and lifestyles with an open mind and curiosity. Life isn't a pre-made to-do list. That's why I think it's important to acknowledge that everyone has their own reality and way of life – and that no one is better or right than another.

Humility is a value that constantly challenges me.

Humility and the art of not taking oneself too seriously – that challenges me regularly.

Solidarity is a value that our society should embrace more.

So many people are lonely today because everyone lives alone in their own apartment, pursuing their individual dreams. The fact that different generations of a family often no longer live together, in particular, leads to young parents feeling overwhelmed and the older generation experiencing loneliness. I believe our entire society would be better off if families stuck together more closely.
