Self-determination and solidarity

What values are reflected in this work and why?

"Baby Shower is a self-portrait and was created during my pregnancy. At that time, my social role and identity shifted from "woman" to "mother." Suddenly, there seemed to be entirely new values that I needed to be interested in. The place reserved for a mother in our Anglo-Saxon, Christian-influenced culture seems rigid and forces us into a fixed role. Self-determination and solidarity with other mothers thus became important values in my work. My goal is to address and accept the diverse feelings and perspectives of mothers and to understand motherhood as a process."

Artist of the Month: Paloma Wolff
Born on January 18, 1999, she is an illustrator, photographer, and tattoo artist of her own art. Her style is characterized by fusions of diverse colors, which are transferred onto canvas using various materials. In her tattoo studio, however, her art nestles against the skin in the finest, playful lines. At the same time, Paloma is studying communication design in Würzburg. Since her pregnancy with twins, Wolff has intensively explored motherhood from a feminist perspective, twisting the assigned norms of parental roles and publishing these ideas in print media, such as a book for the Bologna Children's Book Fair.
